Since August 2022, I have been in a research residency at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) at UC Berkeley in California, thanks to the support of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
The original goal of the residency was to create an updated version of the initial graphical tool developed in 2018 called Ocular Scores® Version 1.
This first version of Ocular Scores creates images in jpg or pdf format, from the analysis of sound files and those images can be imported into traditional musical scores.
This new version will be made available for wide distribution to composers, performers, improvisers, singers and young musicians.
Jeffrey Lubow has been working diligently on the delicate task of coding the new version. This project has been supervised in part by Carmine Emanuelle Cella and Edmund Campion. Based out of Montréal, Joseph Browne, will also be closely involved with the development of Ocular Scores®. Joseph’s work on Ocular Scores® dates back to a residency we collaborated in at matralab (Concordia University, Montréal) under the supervision of Sandeep Bhagwati.
